The situp is a age old exercise that is a great ab and core exercise as long as it is done correct. The key to the situp is to perform the situp correctly so you get the maximum effectiveness of the exercise and to minimize the risk of injury to your back and neck.

The Situp is a age old exercise that is a great ab and core strengthning exercise as long as it is done correctly. The key to the situp is to perform the situp correctly so you get the maximum effectiveness of the exercise and to minimize the risk of injury to your back and neck.

To perform the situp:

  1. Lie on the floor on your back.
  2. Bend your knees as a 90 degree angle with your feet flat on the floor.
  3. Tuck your chin in towards your chest.
  4. Hold your arms off the floor with your hands pointing at your feet, and parallel to your body.
  5. While keeping your butt and feet on the floor, in a smooth non-jerky motion, raise your torso off the floor and towards your thighs. Come up as far as you can.
  6. Lower yourself to the starting position in a slow, smooth motion.
